A Quick One

The PopCulteer
October 2, 2009, 2009

We’ve got a short PopCulteer this week, due to some connectivity issues, so please bear with us as we hit the high points and leave the details for later.

HallowEast Beckons!

HallowEast, the big four-day Halloween celebration in the East End of Charleston kicked off with a press conference last Tuesday. The big news is that Sam Trammell (right), the star of the HBO series “True Blood,” will be in town as part of the festivities. There will also be a special “ArtMares” art exhibit that I’m honored to be part of, as well as a cool Vampire murder mystery, hosted by Bluegrass Kitchen, and tons of other cool stuff, climaxing with the Halloween Hootenanny at The Empty Glass. I’m going to spotlight these events and the many others that are tied into HallowEast in the next few weeks. Until then, check out the HallowEast website for more info.

More Blobbery

You still have two more chances to see the CYAC production of the Dan Kehde/Mark Scarpelli musical, “The Blob.” Tonight and Saturday at 8 PM at the WVSU Capitol Center Theater, 123 Summers Street, Charleston. Tickets are $9.50 ($6.50 for students). You can sample some of the songs from “The Blob” on RFC 82, and in the clip below.

Pre AdamFest

Tonight at The Sound Factory,  RFC guests WATT 4 and Diablo Blues Band are among the bands playing a fundraiser for Adamfest, the annual show for Adam Weaver, a young cancer survivor.  The bands kick ass and it’s a great cause, so if you’re free and enjoy live music, there’s no better place to be tonight. The show kicks off at 9 PM. I haven’t been informed of the cover charge, but it’ll be well worth it (probably under ten bucks).

Monster Clutter

I’d planned to write about a cool local fanzine called “Monster Clutter” this week, but technical issues are going to keep me from doing it until next week. In the meantime, check out their website.

Radio Free Charleston Skips A Week

That’s right. Instead of bringing you a fresh new episode on Monday, we’re going to hold off until October 10 so we can include the drawing for The First Great Guitar Giveaway from RFC and Route 60 Music. The contest ended Wednesday, and we’re working out details for the drawing and some special treats for the next episode.

So you’ll just have to occupy yourself with episode 83 for an extra week. Check out Mother Nang, Sierra Ferrell, James Brown and Patrick Stephens.

That’s It For Now

Sorry about the short column, but the fates conspired against me this week. Check back Sunday for videos, Monday for Art and later next week for PopCult bonus material to make up for this week’s shortcomings.

I did a quick google for Monster Clutter and I came to this page. I checked the week after and I couldn’t find a follow up.
