Arts Council Of Kanawha Valley Meetings

The Arts Council of Kanawha Valley will hold a series of public meetings to identify arts organizations, artists and people who want to contribute, be involved and/or learn more about the council. This is a great idea, and can help build bridges between the different organizations and people to whom the arts are important.

A full schedule of organizational meetings can be found by clicking the “read more” link.

The meetings are scheduled for:

March 17, 4 p.m., Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center
March 18, 8:30 a.m., Taylor Books, Capitol Street
March 19, 6 p.m., Alban Theater, St. Albans
March 24, 6 p.m., LaBelle Theater, South Charleston
March 31, 6 p.m., Hurricane City Hall
April 1, 6 p.m., WVSU Student Union
April 2, noon, Taylor Books
April 7, 8:30 a.m., Charleston Area Alliance
April 9, 11:30 a.m., WVSU Capitol Theater

A Kanawha Valley Cultural Plan, based on research done last summer, found a need and desire from arts agencies, artists, businesses and community for an arts council to be developed. A copy of the plan can be viewed online at www.artskv.org and www.theclaycenter.org.

What a great idea. I’ll see if I can attend. This is just another example of how you support the arts in this town.

I tend to lean toward Anarchy, but this could be good. Although a council of Artists sounds about as formidable as the League of Autistic Superheroes.

If these early meetings are well-attended, this could be just the thing this area needs to unite the different artistic communities and help them find mutually beneficial common ground. As it is, there are lots of scattered cliques that would be better off working together. I hope this idea works.
