It’s been a while since we’ve done this, and the time is ripe. Let’s catch up with things happening in the world of The Beatles…

At the BBC Volume 2

A new collection of Beatles tracks compiled from their appearances on BBC Radio is due out in November. “The Beatles On Air Live At The BBC Volume 2” will contain 63 tracks, 37 of which are full songs, with the rest being studio banter and skits. This is a sequel to the first Beatles at The BBC album, released in 1994, and is the first time any unreleased Beatles songs have been offiically released since the Anthology albums came along a couple of years later. Ten of the songs on this new collection were never recorded by The Beatles for their studio albums.

paul-mccartney-new-hbnt-10McCartney “NEW”

We are just a couple of weeks away from the release of a new Paul McCartney album, “NEW,” which promises to be one of his most interesting releases in some time. Working with a variety of producer, including Giles Martin, the son of famed Beatles producer Sir George Martin, McCartney has crafted what we hope will be a throwback to his classic albums of yore. The lead single is a very good sign…

Harrison’s son covers “For You Blue”

Dhani Harrison, the son of George (and an early RFC supporter) has recorded a cover of his father’s song, “For You Blue” for a GAP ad, with all profits going to the Living In The Material World Foundation. The resemblence to his father’s voice is amazing.

He’s also recorded a full band version of the song…

Lennon’s Birthday

Next Wednesday would have been John Lennon’s 73rd birthday

Ringo’s World

S250Not too much going on with the world’s greatest drummer at the moment. He’s just released a very expensive limited edition book of Photographs that he’s taken over the years, and a car he used to own is up for auction. Ringo has also recorded a voice for a CGI Powerpuff Girls special that should show up on Cartoon Network before the end of the year.  Maybe we’ll get lucky someday and he’ll bring his All-Starr Band to the Clay Center.

“Good Old Freda”

Freda Kelly, the Beatles secretary during the Beatlemania days, is the subject of a new documentary, which you can read about here and here. Film Threat has an interview with the director.
