Less than a week ago I was in New York City. We stayed in Hell’s Kitchen at a nice little hotel called “Hotel 38,” which appropriately enough was on 38th Street, conveniently located a short walk from Two Bros. Pizza.

The room was comfy, cozy and tiny, and Mel explored the hotel and discovered a neat little courtyard nestled at ground level, right behind the hotel, and surrounded by other fairly tall buildings.

The weather was perfect when we were in NYC, and we spent some time in the courtyard, with me staring straight up at the sky between the artificial canyon of metopolitan splendor.  Thusly inspired, I drew a doodle of what I saw on my phone, in Samsung Notes.

When we got home, looking at that doodle, I used some pastel crayons and transferred my vision to paper, adding a bit of detail along the way.  Partway through this process I began to wonder why I didn’t just take a photo, but that thought hadn’t occurred to me at the time, so you get to see this extrapolated doodle this week as our art.
