Monday Morning Art: Animation

This week’s Monday Morning Art is the moving kind. Here’s the video for “Requiem For Pepperland” from episode 28 of Radio Free Charleston.  This Beatles Tribute was written by Stephen and Mark Beckner in 1990, and designed and animated by me in just four days earlier this month. I’m pretty proud of this, so I thought I’d share it again.

Unlike most  weeks, you can’t click the image to see a larger version.  You do have to click on it to watch it.  You can’t also buy this image on shirts, posters, buttons, and other stuff in the newly revamped Monday Morning Art Store. It’s a video, and won’t fit on a shirt.   If you go there, you’ll still see our lovely Geisha from last week.  Feel free to spend tons of money buying up those shirts and things, though. Big Money, Lil Guy on RFC’s Halloween Show!

Radio Free Charleston episode 29 is online now! This is “Pirate Outfit,” our Halloween 2007 show. We’ve got appropriately scary music from legendary Charleston band Big Money (featuring Michael Lipton) and local rapper Lil Guy from South Park Enterprise. Plus, we have scenes from the Radio Free Charleston Halloween party at Capitol Roasters Cafe, where we hijacked a Whistlepunk show.

Our host segments were taped that night, and we get just a taste of Whistlepunk during the end credits. On top of that, we have our usual mind-hurting weirdness and animation, with a sinister holiday bent.

Monday Morning Art: Geisha

The Radio Free Charleston Halloween Party, where we shot the host segments for this week’s show, was a load of fun, and you’ll see just how much fun tomorrow when our Halloween episode goes online.  Until then marvel at this week’s Monday Morning Art, which is a digital painting based on a photo of Chelsea Cook, one of our costumed guests. I thought it would be cool to paint over our Geisha in the style of Japanese pen and watercolor.  You see the results above.  Chelsea took home the prize for best female costume. You can see why.

Just like every week, you can click the image to see a larger version.  You can also buy this image on shirts, posters, buttons, and other stuff in the newly revamped Monday Morning Art Store.  You can also follow these links to see my efforts in the PopCult store and the Radio Free Charleston store.

Halloween Party Pictures

The Radio Free Charleston crew invaded Capitol Roasters over the weekend and turned a Whistlepunk show into a Halloween party.  The joint was packed, and luckily, we had several people show up in costume, so I wasn’t sitting their in my pirate outfit looking like a total dork.

It was a night of big fun and great music, as Whistlepunk delighted the packed house and we saw some great costumes.

We’re going to show you highlights from the party next week on Radio Free Charleston, but for now here’s a preview photo essay. Just follow the jump. Continue reading

Monday Morning Art: The Champ!

IWA East Coast crowned a new Heavyweight Champion October 3 at “Skate Or Die 2” in Campbell’s Creek.  Trik Nasty defeated El Drunko in a shocker.  I snapped a photo of the new champion as he held his championship belt aloft, and then I used that as the basis for this digital painting, somewhat in the style of Leroy Neiman, but not as sloppy.  You can order the DVD of “Skate Or Die 2” right here, so you can watch this thrilling match.  You can also see Trik Nasty in action this coming Saturday in Nitro, on the ASW card that also features The New Age Outlaws of WWF fame, and WCW’s Daffney.   Follow the link for more details.

Just like every week, you can click the image to see a larger version.  Right this moment you can buy this image on shirts, posters, buttons, and other stuff in the newly revamped Monday Morning Art Store.  You can also follow these links to see my efforts in the PopCult store and the Radio Free Charleston store

Tricks, Treats, and Music Saturday Night

Oh God, these guys are gonna kill me for this.

This Saturday Night–October 13–At Capitol Roasters on the corner of Summers and Quarrier Streets in Downtown Charleston, Radio Free Charleston is hijacking a Whistlpunk show and turning it into a costume party! Hey, it’s a “Best Bet” and everything!

All area fans of the show are welcome and you are encouraged to show up in costume. Prizes of questionable worth will be awarded in a few oddball categories, so come out and have a blast with us!

We will be taping host segments for the Halloween episode of Radio Free Charleston at Capitol Roasters that night, and this is your chance to get on the show in costume.

The Whistlepunk show starts at 8:30 PM. We’ll be taping RFC during breaks, and maybe outside Roasters on the street. There is NO COVER and even though Roasters sells wine, it’s an ALL AGES SHOW!

Production Notes: The RFC Beatles Tribute

Episode 28 or Radio Free Charleston, “John Lennon Shirt,” is online now.  This is our tribute to the Fab Four.  It was actually posted on October 9, John Lennon’s birthday, but it’s taken me until today to get the production notes together.

This show is centered around two songs: “Hey John, I Did Imagine,” by Seven Minutes Till Midnight, and “Requiem For Pepperland” by Go Van Gogh.   We also have a special comment by Sir Paul McCartney and the show is hosted direct from Casa De RFC.  Over the end credits you’ll hear some snippets from the original radio version of RFC from our April 1990 Beatles tribute show.
