RFC and The Swing Shift Are New Again This Week

I keep telling you that Tuesday is a great day to tune into The AIR  and today we prove it all over again with a new episode of Radio Free Charleston AND a new edition of The Swing Shift, too!

To listen to The AIR, you simply have to point your cursor over and tune in at the website, or you could just stay here, and  listen to the cool embedded player found elsewhere on this page. That’s what all the cool kids are doing when they aren’t Tik Tokking or hanging out at the mall wondering where all the stores went.

You can hear Radio Free Charleston Tuesdays at 10 AM and 10 PM, with boatloads of replays throughout the week.

Radio Free Charleston offers up a great new hour of local and independent music in its first hour, then we bring you two editions of RFC Volume Four from almost exactly a decade ago.

The show opens with new music from Payback’s a Bitch and then kicks into a set of four songs made by some of my toy collecting friends.  You will hear a great vocal selection from Tearle Ashby, who provided the music you heard in the background of our video of The Hershey Action Figure & Toy Show that premiered just two days ago in this blog. I also bring you Stitch Jones and his Bionic Marines, Radio Cult and HARRAH.

We also have brand-new music from Vinto Van Go, The Dragonflies, Rocco DeLuca and more.

Our second hour, which is an encore of an episode of RFC Volume Four, is a preview of the 2016 ShockaCon Horror Convention, and was first heard the last week of September, ten years ago.  Our third hour picks up with our all-local show from the following week. It’s always fun to back and look what we were doing ten years ago, which is made possible by the fact that we started doing RFC in 1989.

At 3 PM this week The Swing Shift brings you the second of two episodes featuring the music of Raymond Scott, both with his Quintette and with his Orchestra.  Scott, of course, composed many of the melodies that were adapted by Carl Stalling for use in the classic Looney Tunes shorts, but he was also one of the most successful bandleaders of the late Big Band era.

You may not recognize his song titles, but you’ll definitely recognize the tunes.  Check out the playlist…
