Tuesday is NEW RFC DAY The AIR  and this week we devote our first hour to this Saturday’s WV Punk Rock Flea Market, in Huntington. To listen to The AIR, you simply have to point your cursor over and tune in at the website, or you could just stay here, and  listen to the cool embedded player found elsewhere on this page.

You can hear Radio Free Charleston Tuesdays at 10 AM and 10 PM, with boatloads of replays throughout the week.

Radio Free Charleston brings you a new show with three full hours of great local and independent music.

Our first hour is devoted to The WV Punk Rock Flea Market, which takes place at The Marshall Health Network Arena in Huntington this Saturday.  Five bucks gets you in the door for an all-day lineup of great regional bands, plus over 85 vendors selling cool stuff like art, zines, trinketry, jewelry and band merch.  Much of our first hour is taken from  The WV Punk Rock Flea Market Mixtape Volume One, which is a “pay what you want” deal on Bandcamp, compiled by Coffin Curse Records, who did the heavy lifting in making this event happen.

RFC and PopCult are not involved in organizing or running this show, but I wanted to jump in with both feet to promote it. I’ve been excited about it since they announced it last year.

It’s going to be a cool day, starting at noon and running to 10 PM, and yours truly will pop in for a bit of it. The event is being recorded by younger and more able folks, and I will be recovering from an eye procedure, so I won’t be shooting much video or taking many photos, since I’ll probably still be wearing shades, but I wouldn’t want to miss this inaugural event for anything.

And if that weren’t plenty cool enough, our second and third hour plunge into the free format that our listeners know and love with brand-new music from David Synn, Spencer Elliott, A. J. Rosales, The Paranoid Style, Sam Robinson, Squeeze, Soft Machine, Big Big Train and more. We even have some classic local and independent tracks for you.

Check out this playlist, with links to the artist’s page…
