Fifteen years ago, because an episode of Radio Free Charleston was going to be delayed, I decided to make it up to the folks who had been expecting it.  So that our local music fans didn’t feel neglected, I posted then-recent clips of several local bands performing live. With changes in the way video coding works, and the many times this blog has been ported over the years, the original post, from fifteen years ago this month, is filled with dead links, but no videos. This week we’re going to fix that.

This was back in my superhero days, when I was able to crank out so much video of local artists that I had more than I could use on RFC. I miss being that prolific, but my knees and back and need for sleep don’t.

We’re going to kick things off with a reprise of two clips that we had just debuted the previous Friday, after recording them the night before at The Pour House in Dunbar.

Above you see Sierra Ferrel with friends Mo and HoboClay, having a blast at the jam session. Sierra’s done pretty well for herself since then.

After the jump you’ll see Johnny “Hurricane” Compton, then the host of The Pour House Thursday night acoustic jam, plus several other clips of live music from area venues.

Here’s Johnny…

Jeff Ellis has a new single coming out next Friday. Here he is at The Empty Glass, recorded in 2010.

Beaver Knievel was a wild mash-up of a group that combined The Pistol Whippers with The Big Bad, here are four songs by the punkabilly terrors, recorded at The Glass.

Take in three songs by The Nanker Phelge, which was one of the Beckner Brothers joint musical projects. This was recorded at The Empty Glass.

Next up we have Short of Cash, playing at The Blue Parrot during a Wednesday night open mic. I’m not sure what happened to these guys.

Gee-tar virtuoso Josh Buskirk is seen here performing at Taylor Books. I’d love to hear some new music from him.

Synth-wizard David Synn has a new release out now, and has been a consistent RFC radio show favorite. You’ll hear the new tune in next Tuesday’s show.

Here is Happy Minor at The Empty Glass. They disbanded, but the members are still active in the local music scene.
