While your PopCulteer is away drooling over toys at MEGO MEET, it’s time, once again, to devote The PopCulteer to our weekly rundown of cool stuff happening in Charleston.

Of special note is the show by Under Surveillance Saturday night at Creekside Cafe in Hurricane. Not only will this be the first public performance by the band in many decades, but it will also be the first time I will be introducing a band in almost twenty years.  And it doesn’t hurt that the band has a great new CD, which I reviewed HERE and which you can buy at the show. Come for the music, but also cheer me on since I’m starting the day in Pittsburgh before heading to Wheeling and then ending up in Hurricane. I should be amusingly exhausted.

So aside from from Under Surveillance at Creekside Cafe Saturday night at 9:30 PM (with RFC guest, Jordan Searls opening), here’s a bunch of other stuff that you can get into…

All-Ages Shows With RFC Video Stars

In Dunbar, at the 13th Lane Taproom, starting at 7 PM, it’s an all-ages show headlined by TIME AND DISTANCE, with several other local bands. Admission is only five bucks. Check out T&D on the latest RFC MINI SHOW, and then stare at this flyer until it’s time go to the show…

If you have roamed as far North as Clarksburg, you can check out The Laser Beams among the cool bands at an all-ages show at The Main Street Cafe on Main Street in Clarksburg. Check out their video, and their flyer…

Movie Night at KP

Week two of the summer movie series at KP features Nosferatu, the first-ever Vampire movie. You can see this silent classic of German Expressionism Friday night at 10 PM for three bucks. Bring money for concessions, too.

Finding Boots Book Party at Taylor Books

Saturday morning at 10:30 AM, author January Wolfe and artist Jeff Pierson will be on hand to sign copies of their new book, “Finding Boots,” based on the stage production by The Jadco Contemporary Dance Company, which debuted just a couple of month’s ago. The show’s composer, Mark Scarpelli, will be on hand and folks will be treated to samples of the stage production as well as an exhibit of Pierson’s original art for the project.

A StychNTime Sendoff

StychNTime plays their farewell show Saturday night at The Monkey Barrel, with Deadface Down and Hillbilly Deathride in support. Here’s the flyer…

There’s more than just this stuff going on. The Empty Glass will feature Tom’s Triple Threat Blues Band Friday and The McGees Saturday. The Boulevard Tavern welcomes Whitestone Redemption on Friday and The Company Stores w/ Hybrid Soul Project on Saturday. As always, there’s tons of other things happening in town. Check out the Gazette Calendar, for more.

And with that, your PopCulteer is off to enjoy the wonders of 1/9 scale action figures, way up near the North Pole, in Wheeling (man, this Climate Change stuff is murder!).
