It’s another big-time, new-programming Tuesday on The AIR as we deliver new episodes of Radio Free Charleston, Psychedelic Shack and The Swing Shift to our loyal listeners. Why don’t you become one and tune in at the website, or on this embedded radio player…

It all kicks off at 10 AM (with a replay at 10 PM– all times EDT) with a brand-new edition of Radio Free Charleston. Now in its thirtieth year, RFC continues to bring you more local music than any other source.

This week we begin with newly-reissued music from The Big Bad.  Then we dive into the archives a little at a time, winding up with three tracks from 1989, our first broadcast year.

Check out the playlist here:

Monday Morning Art: Bambie and Ricky

This week’s art is a digital painting based on an inept photograph.

When your PopCulteer was in Atlanta for ToyLanta last month, everybody who got in early for the toy show made a trip to Hawg n Ale for dinner one night, and that night just happened to be when they were having their weekly open mic night.  Among the many fine performers on stage that evening were our friends Ricky and Bambie from the band Radio Cult. I shot a few photos/ If you’ve been reading PopCult the last few weeks you know that I was having photo trouble during our trip, and one of the shots I took of the duo performing was completely out of focus, but had color and composition that appealed to me.

So I decided to paint over it, digitally, and you see the end result above, an expressionist look at two friends performing music at a great little BBQ joint. Click the image to see it bigger.

Meanwhile, Monday on The AIR,  7 AM sees a mini-marathon of Beatles Blast, host by yours truly, which comes at you for eight hours.  Then at 3 PM you can settle in for eight hours of great New Wave music with Sydney’s Big Electric Cat. At 11 PM you can spend you overnights with eight hours of the best Progressive Rock of the last half-century on Prognosis.

You can listen to The AIR at the website, or on this embedded radio player…
