The PopCulteer
June 19, 2026

It’s brutal honesty time, folks.

I’m rushing to put together the blog ahead of time so that your PopCulteer and his lovely wife can head to Wheeling for The Marx Toy Show at Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum.  I told you about it last Sunday.

For more stark honesty…we’re already here in Wheeling. We got here last night.

That means that the words you’re reading were written Wednesday evening, right before we started packing up the cameras and gear for the trip.

The problem is…I’m just about all written out.

However, I am lucky in that I have a house full of cool toys and comics and stuff, and a bit of that has just arrived recently, either through the mail or stuff I got at WonderFest that I took weeks to get around to unpacking.

That means that you lucky folks get to look at stuff I just got recently.  Some of this will be reviewed in depth later. Some, much later, like the model kits, which I will try to document the assembly and painting of as soon as I have all the time in the world.

Basically, this week’s PopCulteer is, “Hey, look what I got!|

Enjoy…

Pvt. John Cuddy is the latest action figure with a NEW body in the style of the classic Marx 12″ action figures. This is the second Great Plains Fighter from Stewart’s Attic, and we’ll be doing an in-depth photo review later. Scott’s not going to make it to the Marx Toy Show this year, so I don’t get to rave about these to his face.

I wrote about how cool Major Toys’ Big Rubber Guys are a few weeks ago. Now they’re diving into the world of ECW. Their first figure from the legendary wrestling fed is Tommy Dreamer, who unfortunately was in the news this week for being fired as head of creative by TNA wrestling.

I saw this kit assembled at WonderFest, but didn’t decide to buy it until after I got home and found out that they’re also doing The Space Pod, and that these are in the same scale as classic Marx Playsets, and include figures.

The rest of our cool new things were purchased at WonderFest, like this exclusive G.H.O.S.T. Agents/Adventure Command collaboration. I had to have one of these for the collection.

It may not seem like much, but when you want a rare tabolid-sized comic book that you first found out about in 1976, and find it for the best price you’ve ever seen in the ensuing fifty years, you get it.

Keeping with the Kong theme, it’s always great seeing William Stout, and when I saw that he had a book of drawings inspired by Willis O’Brien, who annimated King Kong, I had to get it, too.

My main reason for going to WonderFest was that I wanted to get the new Neanderthall Woman model kit, which is made in scale with the Prehistoric Scenes figures. The Neanderthal Man kit is being reissued soon, and I didn’t want him to be alone.
It turns out that the folks who make this, Danger Island Models, not only had their new kit available as a preview set, they also had a previous set that they’d reissued, and I think each set has enough parts to make two Neanderthal Women, so…Our Neanderthal Man ain’t gonna have to worry about being alone. I will be writing more about these in the coming weeks. The Wooly Mammoth prototype parts were a pleasant surprise. I didn’t know they’d made them, and this was one of the last eight.

And the folks at Danger Island Toys threw in a custom Wooly Mammoth Tooth necklace because I was tossing so much money their way!

We leave you with a cool resin-cast Creature head with sunglasses. We also got a Godzilly keychain from these folks, but that was for Mel and she already got it out of the bag.

And that is this week’s PopCulteer. Check back for fresh content every day, even if it’s just pictures of cool stuff, plus all our regular features.
