All-Day Metal For A Cause On Sunday

Starting at 11 AM Sunday, some of the area’s top metal bands will gather at The Schoenbaum Amphitheater at Coonskin Park to raise money for The Make A Wish Foundation.

Among the bands are friends of Radio Free Charleston like Voices Of Anatole, Linework, Dead Face Down and Strangled by Statues. The gates open at 10:30 AM and admission is five dollars, which goes to a great cause.

This is a killer chance to catch some of the Kanawha Valley’s top metal monsters, all in one place.

Junkieman’s Widow 11:45-12:15

Andy Is Handy, Tonight!

Andy Park, whom you may have seen on the most recent episode of RFC, is peforming Friday night at Taylor Books, starting at 7:30 PM.  Andy tells me he has a sneaking suspicion that his fellow VooDoo Katz, Deron Sodaro and Mark Davis, might just be joining in the fun.

Andy will be performing songs from his new CD, “True Love,” which you can also purchase at the show.  This is one of the strongest collections of local songs I’ve heard lately, so you probably should cancel your plans and show up at Taylor Books tonight. RFC cameras will be on hand to capture a couple of tunes for future shows.

Happy Minor

I caught Happy Minor last Monday night at The Empty Glass, after months of missed connections and schedule conflicts, and I was mightily impressed.  You will be reading more about Happy Minor here in PopCult this weekend, but for now, check out their unique blend of blue-eyed soul, reggae, rock and jazz, with their original tune, “Gypsy Queen,” recorded live last Monday at The Empty Glass.

That picture of Batman and Robin is quintessentially American.
