, 2016

Saturday November 12 Mountain State Pop Expo invades the Charleston Civic Center for a day of cool pop culture guests, vendors and happenings, all to benefit the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia. All vendor table costs, admission, and raffle ticket sales will go directly to Children’s Home Society of West Virginia to benefit the area’s neediest kids this holiday season.

Vendors will offer up toys, videos, art, video games, collectibles of all sorts and a grand time is guaranteed for all. You can expect to see artists J. R. Earls, Glen Brogan, Kelly Bryant, Chris Woodall and Jason Pell, plus a Radio Free Charleston favorite band, HARRAH.

14079787_1583789298591296_8550483922444176019_nYou can meet Ghostbusters WV Division, Santana Cosplay, Frank “The Grockle” Browning, Mandalorian Mercs Black Mountain Guard, and Sarkany Studios. West Virginia’s Walking Dead walker, Jeremy Ambler, will be on hand. Writers Edward A. Holsclaw II, James Patrick and my old friend Danny Boyd will be there.

You can experience face painting, music, art and collectibles. Among the area dealers of fine and neat things are Third Floor Comics and Collectibles, Classic Plastics, Hillbilly Willy’s Nostalgic Toys, Four Horseman Comics and Games and way too many for me to list here. There will be raffles of cool memorabilia all day long with autographed photos, toys and more.

14937220_1610815742555318_1288072913426807599_nGamers will be all over the place and Pokemon Go will infiltrate the entire show. Pop Culture autos on hand include the Maximum Overdrive Goblin Truck and the Ghostbusters’ Ecto 1. There will be a cosplay contest, judged by the region’s top cosplayers.

All this coolness will be crammed into eight hours, from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Charleston Civic Center. A mere five dollars gets you in to this smorgasboard of pop culture ephemera. Kids ten and under get in free, so you can bring the whole family for a day filled with the neatest of keenity.

14962549_1607973809506178_7977338053043950144_nIf you’re still on the fence after hearing about all that, be advised that your PopCulteer will be on hand and will be ending his seven-month hiatus from producing video, as we gather footage for the upcoming PopCult Gift Guide.

The Children’s Home Society of West Virginia helps the region’s poorest kids. Among the services they provide is a Christmas gift drive for foster children who might otherwise go without during the holiday season. Every penny raised will go to this cause. And it’s going to be a heck of a lot of fun, too. I hope to see you there.
