The PopCult Bookshelf

This week the PopCult Bookshelf is not looking at an already-published work, but instead we’re plugging a Kickstarter project for a sequel to a classic comic which we have raved about before, Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta’s Starstruck. That title may sound familiar to long-time readers of PopCult.

Back in 2010 I wrote about the original Starstruck remastered series, which has since been collected into book form by IDW. And I also told you about the Audiocomics adaptation of Starstruck.

Now we have a chance to see some all-new material focusing on Harry Palmer, one of the supporting characters from the original series.

Harry Palmer: Starstruck “Old Proldiers Never Die” is a sci-fi noir tale that will combine 60 pages of previously-published material (fully remastered) with 80 pages of all-new comics.

The story will follow tough-guy bartender, Harry Palmer—ex-rebel, ex-mercenary “proldier”—as he combs Rec 97, a perilous, planet-sized, vacation station in search of love. His lost love is a missing pleasure droid who happens to be a dead ringer for Harry’s long-lost love.

There are varying levels of support, with tons of cool incentives. I will at least be kicking in enough for the deluxe hardcover. Check it out and decide if you’d also like to get your hands on this wonderfully-written, beautifully-drawn book. This campaign has already attracted over $25,000, in less than two days. You’ve got less than a month left to help Elaine and Michael reach their goal!
