This week Monday Morning Art brings you a digital painting based on a series of out-of-focus photos that I took last month from the L in Chicago. I was the on Brown Line, to be exact. I saw a cool bit of shadowplay, and snapped four quick photos, none of which were even remotely in focus. Using those images as a bit of guide, I created this digital painting, and it’s my first real attempt to mimic the style of Edward Hopper. Since I was not directly painting over a photo I had a lot of freedom to play with the composition and lighting, plus I had to put in all the fine details without much in the way of detailed reference. I’m actually really happy with the way it came out. It’s a bit of a stylistic departure for me. Maybe someday I’ll regain enough control of my fingers to do this as a physical painting.

Over in radio-land, Monday on The AIR, this week we bring you a Monday Marathon featuring the eight most recent episodes of Beatles Blast. These shows are the first installments of The Lost Beatles Project, that presents audio collages of much of the recently released archive outtakes and other material that’s been uncovered. While this series was originally planned to wrap up with the tenth installment, it looks now like it may well go a few episodes beyond that. This eight-hour block of rare Beatles will lead to the rest of the day’s programming.
You can listen to The AIR at the website, or on this embedded radio player…
At 3 PM Herman Linte’s show, Prognosis, re-presents a classic episode, as the Haversham shows take this week off to prepare for the big 50th episode specials of Prognosis and Sydney’s Big Electric Cat, which will air next week. You can find the playlist for the 3 PM airing of Prognosis HERE.
Prognosis will be followed by a classic episode at 5 PM, and then by replays of last week’s Psychedelic Shack at 7 PM, Radio Free Charleston at 8 PM and RFC International at 9 PM. Then at 11 PM we kick it back over to Prognosis, with an extra eight hour marathon of great progressive rock.
