Monday Morning Art: Not Summers Street

mma4201thumb.PNG

We start off the month of April with an installment of “Pop Art Charleston” with a twist.  This digitally-assaulted photograph of Summers Street sits atop a mirror-image, creating a kalidiscopic wonder for the eyes, or a mess, depending on your tastes in art.

Once again, click the photo for a larger view. And go here for the Monday Morning Art Store, and here for the PopCult store. Vote with your dollars!  Is “Pop Art Charleston” a bold new direction, a cheesy way to recycle old works into T-Shirts, or am I just in a rut?  Come on, it’s “one-dollar, one vote” just like in Logan County!

Actually, it’s a photo of Lee Street.  Thanks to Charleston Charlie for catching that in the comments.  Sometimes I assault these images so much I forget how they started out.

Isn’t this view actually of Lee Street looking east from the corner of Summers?

Nope. The original photo was taken looking North on Summers Street from the Brawley Walkway. That’s the People’s Building in the center/left of the picture. Sometimes I digitally assault these things too much. 🙂

Rudy – Are you sure. Is that not the Sitar Restaurant on far left, then row of buildings up including the empty pharmacy space and a few other storefonts( I think two a restaurants, one is Blue Moon) to Purple Moon’s space. Then there is Davis Park and the tall building at the end is Sun Bank I believe. Look at the end of the “India” sign.

Good lord, You’re right. I just checked the original photo, and it’s almost identical to a shot that I did take on Summers Street from Brawley. When I colored the large building in the background, it threw me off.

    Well, that’s embarrassing.
