Life Speaks, The Beatles Speak, and Hamilton Mixes It Up In All New Shows Wednesday on The AIR!

air-wednesday-new-1-03Our Wednesdays always bring lots of very cool stuff to The AIR, and we’re kicking off the new year with brand-new episodes of our top programs.  Today you’ll get fresh servings of Life Speaks to Michele Zirkle, Beatles Blast, Curtain Call and The AIR Audio Playhouse.

Wednesday morning brings you replays of The Swing Shift and three hours of great alternative music in the AIR MUSIC MIX.

At 11 AM it’s a special encore presentation of The AIR Audio Playhouse.

Noon sees 90 minutes of Mrs. PopCulteer, Mel Larch, first hosting a replay of Curtain Call, and then also hosting a classic episode of On The Road with Mel.

At 1:30 PM it’s time for an all-new edition of Life Speaks to Michele Zirkle.  This week we bring you part one of Michele’s way-cool interivew with the paranormal investigators behind History and Haunts. This is a fascinating look into the world beyond the visible world with thought-provoking anecdotes and adventures. You can hear a replay of Life Speaks at 7 PM. Part two of this interview will air next week.

At 2 PM music takes over witha brand-new Beatles Blast, hosted by yours truly, as we kick off the show with “Things We Said Today” and then launch into a 55-minute audio collage of interviews with the Beatles as a group and in their solo years, culminating in an 18 minute discussion between Paul McCartney and Tim Rice, from 1980.

At 3 PM a brand-new Curtain Call presents highlights from the acclaimed Hamilton Mixtape. This project combined cover versions of tunes from the hugely successful Broadway musical by Lin Manuel Miranda with Miranda’s own demos for the show. Curtain Call host Mel Larch promises more examples from the ongoing project that Miranda now calls “Hamilton Mix Drops” in future episodes of her show.

The AIR Audio Playhouse brings you an hour of the surreal and once-thought-lost Stan Freeberg Show at 5 PM and our double-shot of The New Music Show and The (BS) Crazy Show follow that.

Following a replay of today’s new episode of Life Speaks, we have a classic episode of Word Association with Lee & Rudy at 7:30 PM.

Monday Morning Art: Winter Bean

20171205_1351041

Your PopCulteer rang in the new year in a low-key manner, and we kick off another year of Monday Morning Art in PopCult with a low-key piece of art. What you see above is a simple photograph, with not one piece of retouching, other than to change the size of it for this blog. It’s a picture taken on my new phone last month while we were in Chicago. That is the Cloudgate Sculpture in Millenium Park, which is known among the locals as “The Bean.”

It’s a pretty incredible thing, a huge, reflective kidney bean-shaped polished metal thingy, and set against the steel and glass buildings, it really stands out. I tried painting over it, but nothing I tried looked as cool as the original photo. So I decided to just post the photo. Click to see it bigger, then go to Chicago and look at it in person.

air-6-6-17Before you rush off to make your travel plans, please remember that you can tune in and hear cool stuff on our internet radio station, The AIR.

You can listen at the website, or on this familiar little embedded player…

We’re bringing you more of the best independent radio that you’ll ever hear anywhere on our humble little internet station. Today we are airing out our holiday programming before we take it all down and stuff it into tubs in the attic to dig out and re-use next year.

So if you want one last blast of Christmas, tune in to The AIR all day long for special Christmas episodes of Radio Free Charleston, Curtain Call, The Swing Shift, The Bats**t Crazy Show, Prognosis, Big Electric Cat, The AIR Audio Playhouse and more.

The plan for the rest of the week is to bring you all-new episodes of our most popular shows, so follow along on the schedule below and cross-check with what we’re playing so you can figure out exactly what our most popular shows are!

And most of all, have a happy and safe new year. How about we make 2018 the year that reverses the downward trend. And don’t forget to watch the new video episode of Radio Free Charleston that we posted here on the last day of 2017.
