Here at PopCult central we are back from one adventure and preparing to embark on another, but we have a ton of odd little items to address and report, so let’s go!
About Those Medical Tests
I’m talking about the ones that kept me from attending Toy Fair this year. Well, the results are in. I still have Myasthenia Gravis (which was no shock), but I will soon be exiting the land of prednisone. Prednisone is a marvelous drug, pretty much the best medicine for my condition, but it also comes with a full regiment of nasty side effects that Your PopCulteer will be perfectly happy to put in his rear-view mirror.
As I am weaning off of that medicine, I will be attending to one of those side effects, and that will require another brief sabbatical from the world of editing video. So after I return from JoeLanta and The Great Atlanta Toy Convention and produce the videos of that wonderful event, I will be going back on the video shop track for a month or two.
After that matter is taken care of, Radio Free Charleston will return in all its video glory, just in time to make the eleventh anniversary of its first episode. Before that, though, a “lost” episode will likely pop up when you least expect it. This is one for which we shot the host segments almost a year ago in Senoia, Georgia.
But Enough About Me
Celtic Calling
Charleston is once again holding the Celtic Calling all ovver town this weekend. It’s a real treat for lovers of Irish and Celtic heritage, music and arts. You can find full details HERE, and check out The Charleston Rogues (below) at The Boulevard Tavern Saturday, March 4, at 5 PM for the Celtic Calling Happy Hour.
Toy Show In Parkersburg
It’s time for the Classic Plastics toy show in Parkersburg. I’m not likely to make it this year, since I’m buried in preparation for our trip to Atlanta, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go…
Spencer Elliott at Celsius
My old buddy, Candy Rat Records recording artist Spencer Elliott will be playing live at Celsius March 3 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Spencer has been a fixture of the Charleston music scene for many years and will have his latest album, Unspoken available for purchase as well as other great merchandise. In addition to Spencer and his amazing guitar work, rumor has it that he may sing a bit, and will also have the virtuoso, Sean Sydnor, on hand as a musical guest.
Celsius will be offering a special limited dinner menu featuring their homemade lasagna, Genesis pork chop, Filipino chicken adobo and our bison parmesan sliders. Locally roasted coffee and hot tea will also be available.
ASW in Madison
Gary Damron has assembled another top-notch card for All Star Wrestling in Madison this Saturday, with ECW legend Tommy Dreamer, Smackdown’s former GM, Vicki Guerrero and Mad Man Pondo. Details in the graphic…
More Popcult Housekeeping
We still have a few late reports from Toy Fair coming in, and you should see those in the next few days, along with our regular features and the countdown to JoeLanta and The Great Atlanta Toy Convention. So you’ll want to keep checking as we post even more than we usually do for the next week or three.
The AIR Weekend
We have our usual cool stuff coming up this weekend on The AIR. You can listen on the website, or on this quaint and exotic embedded player…
You won’t want to miss a second of the great music, comedy, drama and talk on the best-kept secret of Charleston radio. Of special note is a new show that we can’t specifically call out by name here in PopCult. Let’s call it “The BS Crazy Show.” It’s pure unbridled, uncensored insanity. The show has been described as “Dr. Demento on acid” and “Dr. Demento on meth” by the producer. You can hear it Saturday nights at 7 PM and 10 PM, and sprinkled throughout the week with little or no warning.
Stuff To Do
Here’s more stuff you can get into this weekend…
