deadlineThe PopCulteer

This week finds your PopCulteer neck-deep in deadlines. Things are plugging along wonderfully with The AIR, the internet radio station I’m co-running, but I have a writing commitment that needs to be finished by the end of the day Friday and other paying gigs that need attention, so today, rather than leave my readers hanging–I’ve gone more than thousand days with at least one post here in PopCult, you know–I will present ten random images, culled quickly from my various hard drives, that have nothing really much to do with one another (well, some might).

You see, a picture is worth a thousand words, so basically, this is like me cranking out a ten-thousand-word PopCulteer. You are welcome.

After the photos I’ll tell you all about this weekend’s programming on The AIR.

Our first picture is the logo for Sydney’s Big Electric Cat, which has a new episode premiering at 3 PM Friday on The AIR. The Playlist for this week’s show appears at the bottom of this post, below the jump.

At the Marx Toy Convention last month, at the last after-hours meet up at The Marx Toy Museum, museum trustee and Marx Expert, Glenn Ridenour, generously allowed me to photograph one of his most rare and exotic items. This is the original sculpt of the head of the Victorian Riding Lady, a figure that was never produced or sold by Marx despite the existence of molds and test shots. In the next few weeks I’ll bring you a whole photo essay of what Glenn showed us.

This is a wild and unused digital painting of The Flash, combining comic book art with whatever the hell it is that I do.

A couple of years ago Mel and I came across this cool car for sale on the side of the road on 119 near Big Chimney. I forgot about it until I found this photo.

A shot from FestivALL 2014’s Art Parade. ShockaCon is right around the corner. It’ll be here before you know it. Stay tuned for more.

This year there is no scheduling conflict between ShockaCon and The Mothman Festival, which is now blissfully SMOKE-FREE. Thank you Mason County for letting us breathe clean air while we explore the paranormality.

I also owe you folks a photo essay of the model contest room at WonderFest USA from early in June. It’s coming, I promise.

One last look at The Marx Toy Museum. We will follow you online, guys.

Unused Monday Morning Art. It’s all swirly and stuff.

Now that I’m slowly regaining the use of my fingers and can paint and sculpt again, it’s probably dangerous for my wallet to visit the dealer’s room at WonderFest USA.
