As I’ve mentioned many times before, Tuesday is our most-listened-to day on The AIR and we try to load it up with new episodes of our most popular shows as often as possible. Wouldn’t you know it, that’s exactly what we did again this week as we bring you more great local music and other goodies like Swing and Psychedelica. This week all three of our Tuesday music programs feature new episodes, and they’re all pretty special. You can tune in at The AIR website, or listen in on this non-controversial embedded radio player…
Today at 10 AM we are bringing you yet another brand-new episode of Radio Free Charleston, opening with new music from Willaim Matheny, and continuing with a great mix of new music and stuff from deep in our archives. See the playlist below the jump.
Radio Free Charleston can be heard Tuesday at 10 AM and 10 PM, with replays Thursday at 2 PM, Friday at 8 PM and Saturday at 11 AM and Midnight, exclusively on The AIR.
At 2 PM it’s time for Nigel Pye and his psychedelic mixtape program, Psychedelic Shack. This week we get yet another new episode of Psychedelic Shack in its new one-hour format, bringing you Nigel and his weekly hour-long mix of mind-blowing psychedelic music. In this week’s show you’ll hear vintage Vanilla Fuidge, Donovan, Janis Joplin and more mind-altering music. See the playlist below the jump.
Psychedelic Shack can be heard Tuesday’s at 2 PM, with replays Wednesday at 11 AM, Thursday at 5 PM and Saturday at 7 AM.
At 3 PM The Swing Shift brings you another new hour that mixes all types of Swing Music from the last one hundred years into an eminently danceable, cohesive whole. From Jimmie Lunceford and Fletcher Henderson to Joe Jackson and The Brian Setzer Orchestra to new music from Swing Republic and Jack’s Cats, this is one swingin’ affair.
You can hear The Swing Shift Tuesday at 3 PM, with replays Wednesday at 7 AM, Thursday at 7 PM and Saturday at 9 AM, only on The AIR. You can also hear all-night marathons, seven hours each, starting at Midnight Thursday and Sunday evenings.
Remember, you can tune in to The AIR at all hours of the day and night for a variety and quality of programming that you will not find anywhere else.

Check out my stuff from Tyler Pedersen
“Swingin in Space” and Swingin’ Beyond”
epesially “ The Dig” “ Stridin On Europa”
“ Swingin Beyond” “ Celeste” “ Song for Us” “ Mysterioso” “ T- Boneausaurus” etc.
Scott Yanoo from the La Jazz Scene
says my music takes Swingin blues
into the 21st century.
I like to think of it as swing blues
with a cosmic edge.
Probably “The Dig” and Song for Us”
would be the most psychedelic. If
listen to both CD’s together I
think you will here what I mean.
My 2 singles are out there while
stlll maintaining a pre war rhythm
section feel.
I might be just what you are looking
for.
Thx – Tyler Pedersen
Thank you very much.
It has been my life’s mission to
hopefully inject a more 3 dimensional
and cosmic sound with my slightly
spacey sounding Four guitar
playing and a bit of female choral
voices along
with that infectious 1939 post war
rhythm section feel.
I firmly believe human beings
can be people of higher awareness
and people that love that west coast
and Lindy Hop Music.
I have recorded with most of
West Coast Jump Blues Musicians
on over 30 CD’s
I love retro but it’s time to bring
that music into the future.
My music is not Jazz or Rockabilly.
Jazz seems to be about Academia
and Rockabilly seems to be about
a by gone era. I have deep respect
for Jazz and retro players.
Thanks to people like yourselves
we can creste a new approach that
will find it’s way into popular culture
by 2025 if not sooner.
Try mixing it up.
Swing is not just a rehash of Cab Calloway or the sthick of the past.
There is room to combine the
psychedelic quality of Fripp and Eno
with a pre war dance feel
Might take you awhile but you
will eventually get it.
In Time
Wouldn’t it be fun if some imaginative
people were to come up with some
new way of dressing for a brand
new kind of otherworldly swing
and Lindy Hop dance style.
I can only imagine how fun
and imaginative the dance clubs
would look like. Maybe the dancers could kind of dress in style that would be a
cross between Betty Hutton and
Judy Jetson. Or maybe Benny
Goodman and Buck Rogers.
I am not any kind of expert
on dancing or clothing design.
Plus, the look and ambience
of a psychedelic swing dance
club would be truely cool.
I would like to know what
some like minded imaginative
people think about
a brand new style.
Enough already with retro. Don’t
get wrong, I love retro, let’s
just try something new.
The cool part is, is the dancers
still get to demonstrate the skill
and joy of real swing dancing.
Still, if the dancers don’t have
the training, they can dance
anyway and enjoy that wonderful
Pre war feel.
